Highwave does have a history of firsts in the coffee mug arena. Why? I have to believe it is because they are thinkers, coffee drinkers, and devoted to making the coffee experience better.
The wide bottom is the big plus, albeit not for every situation. The wide bottom keeps the center of gravity much lower than other mugs. This mug will not tip over with coffee inside (okay if you roll your car, this will tip over but hey you have bigger things to worry about then!).
The handle is large enough for a man's hand, but not so large as to be unwieldy for a smaller hand.
The groves around the middle hold the lid on, but they are also instrumental in keeping coffee from sloshing out. This is the only mug I use at home (okay, I have two of these so one is always clean!) and you won't find a single coffee stain on my carpet. Did you ever notice that the vast majority of carpets in most office buildings are some shade or combination of brown? This is because a lot of coffee is spilled by typical mugs and disposable cups. Take a look the next time you are in the office!
The grooves also make it easy to pick up the mug without the handle. wrapping your hand around the mug with your thumb and first finger in the groove is a very natural feeling.
The conical shape not only allows for a lower center of gravity, but keeps the flavor from escaping quickly, much like a red wine or whisky tasting glass that is smaller at the top. This also slows the heat from leaving the mug.
In short, this mug was built from the ground up by people who care about enjoying coffee, and looked at every aspect of how to make a great mug.
