(More customer reviews)I started to run this air purifier exactly 52 hours ago, and it has already changed my quality of life.
I have never owned an air purifier before. I have been literally choking on the air in my own apartment during the several months that I have been living here, and I had extremely unrealistic expectations about an air purifier: I imagined posting something like, "Wow! I could feel the difference after two hours!" Well, OK, it took more than two hours! But it happened.
I started it on low fan with the sanitizer disabled. Then I went to medium fan, then I added the sanitizer on low, then I put the fan on high and the sanitizer on medium. I awoke this morning no longer choking on the air and no longer confronted with the aggressive dusty odor with which I had come to associate my apartment. I left it today with the fan on high and the sanitizer on medium and returned tonight to a completely different atmosphere.
I am not afraid of the ozone produced by the sanitizer but if you are you can choose to run it only once in a while or never.
My only concern is that, unlike some other air purifiers, this one does not have a display light that indicates when the HEPA filter is dirty (and this HEPA filter is permanent if you have a hand vac although you can also choose to buy a replacement filter [also readily available through amazon]). Since this is my first air purifier, a dummy light would have been great. But I went for the price. I guess I'll know when the filter needs vacuuming or changing when I sense that the air is once again heavy with particles.
But no negatives. I love this thing. I want to hug it.

I studied most all of them and found that there are many con-games going on with cleaver advertise schemes. I ended up purchasing both Newport 9000 and the Sharp FP-N60CX because I couldn't decide. And I love both. It has been six months and they are on all the time -- contineous. I have four large dogs, the air is fresh and my girfriend with dog allergies is doing fine. I have found both reliable economical and working as advertised. I use the Newport in the larger living-room and the Sharp in the bedroom. They both appear to be on the leading edge of technology sampling the air and automatically adjust. Both are operating in the automatic mode day and night -- noise is not a problem. Perfectly Satisfied.

When I bought my first XJ- 30000 5 years ago they were going for 500 to 300 dollars I imagine the technology or scale has made them less expensive to make. Don't be fooled by those expensive air filters from evergreen or direct sales companies the mark up on them is 200x. Although this unit is not made in the USA what electronic gadget is these days? Highly recommend to eliminate mold and mildew from basements and in high humidity climates.

(More customer reviews)I bought this primarily to reduce pollen in the air to keep my allergies under control. It seems to have helped, and I've found it is also great at eliminating pet odors (if I don't run it, the room starts to smell like our dog).
The filter replacement indicator is helpful, and the filters last a reasonable length of time.
I run it on low most of the time, which seems to be enough for it to do its job. It's not whisper quiet on low, but I find the noise level acceptable and I sleep with it running right next to my bed. Medium and high speeds are quite noisy and therefore I use them only to try to clear an odor in a hurry.

EcoQuest Fresh Air Purifier 2.1 Ozone Free Review

(More customer reviews)We live in a dusty place--agriculture nearby, windy conditions and a relatively dry climate mean constant dust. Plus we are in an area of high air pollution with coal-fired power plants. I find lots of dust in the house, and I know it makes me uncomfortable. We purchased the EcoQuest Fresh Air Purifier during a home show, and I find it lives up to its promises of cleaner air, though there is certainly a downside to using it (more about later.)
How it works
Some air purifiers work by filtering the air--they bring IN the air with a fan and blow it across a filter or precipitator to remove the dust. But the EcoQuest is different; it bombards the air with ions that make the dust fall down and break apart. While this sounds like science fiction, it is a well-known method of precipitating particles in many applications. Therefore, one EcoQuest works on a large area--in our case we use one for the main part of the house which is open plan and find it controls dust in the great room, the upstairs hallway and kitchen. (maybe a 1700 sq ft area.) When we need dust control in the bedrooms, we just move it in there. Normally, ours sits on the top of the stairs where it can reach the great room, hallways and kitchen.
This is the major advantage of the EcoQuest--since it doesn't rely on bringing air into it, you can position it to cover a large part of a house.
Appearance and Operation
The Ecoquest Fresh Air Purifier is a squarish box, black in front and with faux rosewood plastic on the side. I guess it is about as unobtrusive as you can get, not pretty but not ugly either. It is the size of four or five phone books standing on end. There is a front panel with lcd readout and press-membrane style controls.
The unit has an ultraviolet light that generates ozone and then inside, there is a plate of ceramic covered with a metal screen. This is the ion generator.
The fan has several speeds, from one to five, five being the loudest and fastest.
The UV lamp in our unit, with fairly constant use, has been in service for two years and has not shown any signs of burning out. So far, so good. You can choose settings based on the size of the area you wish to clean (small bedroom, car interior, large open room). We live in a pretty large open area, so we usually leave the unit on the 1750 sq ft setting.
You can choose how long to leave on the unit from 2,4, to 6 hours continuous operation, on high. This setting is for cleaning the house while you are gone. We choose to use this on days when the dust is getting to us, and we leave the house.
When we come home we notice:
1. The dust on the furniture is smaller in texture, and the carpets feel soft. The claim that the dust is broken down seems to be true.
2. We notice the lightning-struck smell of ozone. Some people find ozone a pleasant, fresh smell, but in large amounts, it is an irritant to me, and more than a little will give me a royal headache and makes me cough.
The Down Side
So, now, to the down side of the EcoQuest. The UV light generates ozone, and the ionizer plate apparently does as well. Ozone for many people, especially asthma suffers, is quite irritating. It's actually a toxic gas in large amounts. So one has to go cautiously with the EcoQuest and air out the house. Ozone is used by fire remediation to purify air after a disaster, and also to remove stubborn odors. It's a valid technique to purify air, as long as you remove the ozone afterwards. On its own, ozone is actually a pollutant. But it is a reactive type of molecule and breaks down, so getting rid of it is not difficult.
Maintenance
Monthly maintenance is required if you use the EcoQuest regularly or if the air is dirty. If you forget, a light goes on, indicating it's time to clean the ion generating plate. There is a ceramic plate inside you remove by unscrewing a back plate Then you vacuum off the plate and dust out the inside carefully. This takes us about 15 minutes.
Parts to replace would include the ceramic plate and the UV lamp. So far, in two years of constant use, we have not had to replace anything.
Summary
The EcoQuest lives up to its claim of reducing dust by breaking it down and by generating air-freshening ozone. However, too much ozone is a pollutant in itself. Therefore, you have to use it carefully and be mindful that if you cannot tolerate ozone, this may not be the purifier for you. As long as we don't crank up the ozone, we are quite happy with the unit. We have enjoyed good operating life with little maintenance so far.

(More customer reviews)I have two different models of this air filter. We bought one and used it. Then, we bought another unit. They run 24x7 in my house because some family members have allergies and we have multiple pets. I've had no problems at all. The noise level is quite tolerable to us, even with one sitting right behind the sofa. One thing I have to remember to do is turn them on again after a power failure. However, that's a safety feature and I don't want most electrical appliances coming on automatically after a power outage. The big advantage to this brand is that the air filters last longer and are easy to change. In addition, the controls allow the user to select the combination of features he wants to use.

Ionic Pro CABR1 Mini Ionic Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Ionic Pro a few months ago to help alleviate litter box odor. It was smaller than expected and is really not a "convenient" product. It does not have an electrical cord. It plugs directly into the electrical outlet. So it is really difficult to place it exactly where you want it to be and thus, its effectiveness could be hampered.
It does a good job on most odors most of the time--minimal to slight odors. However, when there is a particularly stong odor, the product is less effective. If you want to combat strong odors, I would suggest purchasing one of the more powerful/bigger Ionic products.

Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter Review

(More customer reviews)When I received it on 12/31/10 and took it out of its box, the only paperwork I found was a receipt and small form for Warranty Registration which stated "Please refer to the guarantee and warranty statement enclosed with your unit", and the Serial Number was on the bottom of the unit. There was no instruction booklet for this unit to explain operation, parts and warranty. Also there was no Serial Number on bottom of unit. There was a small tag on back which had "No10010075" which I assume is the Serial Number. . I am 84 years old and this is the first time I have ever purchased something that had no printed instructions or Manual.
It also stated that I could register online at www.surroundair.com/register. I went to that site but there was no place to register it there. The site also did not provide any way to download or obtain a manual. I contacted Surround Air by EMail and the answer I received back was that Amazon registered this unit but no mention of obtaining a manual.
After removing coverings from HEPA filter, I turned it on to high and thought it would run until the air was cleaned. After running all day it never turned off or slowed down so it appears that the unit does not have any type of sensor to do that. I never have noticed any change in the air quality so I can not fairly rate the unit except that it does not seem to do anything.

Hunter 30756 PermaLife Tower Air Purifier with 3-Speed Fan Review

(More customer reviews)This purifier has all but kept my pet allergy at bay and has collected a large amount of dust/debris/animal hair that's been flying around in my air system. I leave it on all day and night.
The prior review stated that a ring at the base destroyed their carpet. This product is designed to gather in dirty air and spit out fresh air - not all of the dust is going to get pulled in and some WILL collect at the base - but unless you vacuum once per year, this is no problem at all. Just vacuum your carpet regularly.
I have light carpet (Mohawk I think) and it's fine. There is a ring where the unit was sitting, but this is from the base sitting in one spot for a while - much like a table leaves an indent in the carpet that comes up after a time.
This product does NOT get 5 starts because the filters are hard to come by. I have to order mine online since Home Depot / Lowes / Target / WalMart / PriceClub (and derivatives) do not carry it.
I've also seen other sites that say the controls are difficult. It's like a cheap car with automatic transmission from the 80's - 3 speeds and an overdrive (psuedo 4th speed).
Oh - and it comes with a remote - how can you go wrong?
Finally - the price. Amazon's price is ridiculous - Home Depot and Lowes regularly sell these things for $180. Occasionally they have 50% off sales. So, get the filters online, but definitely buy the thing in a store.

(More customer reviews)I think this is probably the best negative ion generator available. the manufacturer testing says there is negligible ozone production (purports to be almost not detectable & well within safety standards) so it is not harmful. It really cleans th air well in the the room I have it. Previously visible airborne particles that could be seen when direct sunlight streamed into the room have now disappeared. My asthmatic friend who sleeps over, says her breathing is much easier. And feel more refreshed. The stale air odor that used to be there after the house was closed off, has now gone. If you are in the market for a negative ion generator, this is the one to get !!!!
