(More customer reviews)The unit arrived in so-so packaging. As with everyone else, I had a nut missing. This is in my opinion due to the fact that mine were thrown into the box loose, they should be bagged. I fished second nut out of the corner of box.
So, after getting one from my hardware box, I assembled the unit. Reading thru instruction I learned that I need SAE 30 oil. So next thing I did is I went and I bought 2 quarts of such oil. I filled the engine (uses about 1/3 of bottle or even less).
Filled in the gas. Hooked up the hose. Turned on the water (supplied connector started leaking, more on this later). Unit started on third try.
I test drove it and was pretty impressed with results.
Things you want to get before washer arrives:
1 Quart of SAE 30 (this is not modern engine oil!)
1 Quick Connect Male-Female Brass (I use plastic everwhere so I bought plastic but if you start from scratch, get brass)
1 Female-Female connector from Lowes or Homedepot. Anderson Barrows
PBGH2 3/4" FE Hose/FE Hose Swivel (Lowes had it) worked perfectly for me. This is because power washer has male connector (not female like all sprinklers, heads, etc that connect directly to hose) and all quick connects come with male as well. You can't connect male with male :)
Activities before you run your unit:
Fuel: Put fuel in.
Oil: Pour until indicator is at proper level.
Gender converter: Screw on the swivel connector onto power washer. This will make a female connector available on the the power washer. The one I listed above requires to use quite some force, but once it is on, it is on!
Quick Connector: Screw in the male part onto power washer, female onto hose, you are ready to go!Notes:
Chemical application requires you to put "low pressure" tip. The detergent won't be sucked in with any other tip.
Level the unit perfectly. It will cut the fuel once it is even so slightly tipped. If your unit shuts down after 15-30s, it is not leveled!
Use a little bleach with your detergent when cleaning white siding, you'll be amazed how much quicker it goes.Enjoy!

Anyhow, this is a fantastic generator!! As another reviewer stated, I put gas and oil in and she fired up on the first pull!! Remarkably quiet, runs very smooth, and everything is solid on this unit! Metal gas tank WITH GAUGE, metal gas cap, the 12v DC charge pins are a GREAT addition should you need to charge a battery while running the generator. Plenty of outlets, a V gauge, breaker switch, nice On/Off switch, the wheel/handle kit is a true bonus, and it also came with a free nylon cover for when it's put away it'll look just like new! Even the paint job is nicely done. For the money you can't beat this price, especially the shipping!! Take a look around, you will NOT find a better deal on a generator with these features.
It's worth noting that the system is a 4400watt PEAK load. It will maintain a 3500watt load, and the extra 900w are to handle the occasional surge when, say, a freezer or refrigerator kicks in. The manual has a nice breakdown of typical wattage draws from various home appliances so you can gauge your use accordingly. This will power all at the same time:
- my chest freezer
- my refrigerator
- my TV/Stereo
- 3 Lights
- Radio (boombox)
and there is still room for a few other items.
Great deal overall! I also purchased a "gas station", a 15gallon cylinder with a hose/spigot, to keep on hand for any emergencies which I'd need the gen for.
The seller is easily reached via phone and was very quick to ship my order out, faster than I anticipated!

(More customer reviews)I ordered the unit and it took 26 days to arrive. Assembly was straightforward and the fit and finish was fine. Hooked the unit up to a manual switch and it was underpowered for the house. After much effort, it was clear that the generator pumped out a solid 100 volts ac, not 120. It couldn't even run a handtool at full power. HMMM.... 10,000 watts, eh? Next came Porter Cable NATIONAL service. It took them 48 hours to respond and when they did, it was basically to say its not their problem -try the local service center to see if they fix generators. The local service place was more sympathetic, but that doesn't put power in your lines. I am probably going to be stuck lugging a 350 lb. brand new generator to see if they can find out what's wrong. I'll give the generator 2 stars on looks alone. But I would much prefer a generator that is useable and that has a service crew that is even minimally interested in helping. One way or another I will get this thing to work, but for something that costs over $2ooo, I would have expected a generator that had been inspected by someone other than me.
