(More customer reviews)I bought this inverter after researching several different models. My house is fairly rural, and I lose power a half-dozen times a year. About 2 of these outages last more than a day, so clearly this won't help with that, as I don't have a dozen deep cycle batteries lying around.
This model has incredible starting capacity, and I purchased this model because I wanted one that could start and run my fridge from a battery so I don't lose a few hundred dollars in food every time the power goes out. The manual states that this model can provide 2x rated power (1600 w in this case) for a FULL 10 SECONDS. That is incredible and unheard of in an inverter this price. If you download the manuals for most, they state they can provide 2x rated power, but for only 0.1 second. 0.1 second? That's hardly helpful, and won't start any motor. I can confirm that this unit will easily start and run both of my refrigerators without any difficulty. Obviously the surge capacity is reduced with the batteries reduced power capacity, and it won't surge 2x when the battery is low. Additionally, I was impressed with the manual recommending "just try it", if you didn't know if the inverter could handle your load. That indicates they trust their design, and gives me confidence as well.
Just today I used this inverter with a trolling motor battery from my boat. I was able to watch TV and operate a lamp with a CFL bulb for about 5 hours until power came back on. This includes my 57" CRT projection TV, 700w amp and DirecTiVo. My Kill-A-Watt EZ indicates that it pulls about 350w idle. It ran from this inverter for 5 hours without any difficulty, and only became warm to the touch. The power output is cleaner than my borrowed generator; the TV picture was rock solid, no audio artifacts through the amp.
Caveats:
1) When the battery runs down, the surge capacity is reduced. It still had an hour of TV left, but it would no longer start the fridge.
2)The power is not clean enough to satisfy the APC UPS on my TiVo. It ran the battery down on the UPS since it was convinced my power was dirty. Moving the power to the inverter directly solved this problem.
3)This unit pulls a LOT of current when running. Tonight one of the nuts on the battery post was loose, and the inverter kept shutting down. Once I realized the problem, I tightened the nut and all was well. The loose nut could not provide the current needed to run the Inverter. Mess with the battery clamps, and it will give you a big spark, pretty bright if your power is out. ;-)

I bought one of these in 2008, installed it in my motorhome and spent a few days camping in the Arizona desert. The following year we didn't go camping at all, so did not use the inverter. This fall, I was getting the motorhome set up for camping and I noticed the inverter was not working correctly. It runs for about a minute and then shuts off. This happens under heavy load or no load at all. After a few phone calls to Go Power, I learned that there are no user fixes, the inverter is shot, and they offered to sell me another at 1/2 price since mine was beyond the 2 year warranty.
I declined their offer, given that the first one only had about 10 hours of use on it, and there was no reason to think that another unit wouldn't do the same thing. I figure this one cost me about $75 per hour to operate, so even at half price, it isn't a deal.

I have a Lenovo, with a charger rated at 90w, and thought this would be a nice unit to carry in the car. It will charge the laptop if it's turned off, but with the laptop partially discharged and turned on, the unit gives up and trips off. The 90w rating of the laptop charger is (as I've now discovered) an output rating, and the input power consumption is greater, but this unit has no margin of error, and a lot of customers might reasonably think a 100w inverter would handle a 90w charger; it won't.

(More customer reviews)Great little invaluable tool! I owned the 400w initially which is nice 'cause you can hook it to the cigarette lighter but that's insufficient for higher loads. My Bosch hammer drill overwhelmed it. So, I bought this 800w and it can run the 6.5amp hammer drill continuously. You DO have to connect it directly to the batter but that's to be expected. That kind of current would short the lighter fuse or even cause a fire in the dash. I've had no problems with this thing at all. I love it!

One thing I wish would have been mentioned somewhere is that you need to purchase a 150 amp inline fuse to put in the power wire from the battery to the inverter. (More customer reviews)Beware of all those talking about failures of the inverter - one guy says that he returned his, because two 70Ah batteries couldn't power it to run a 1/2 horsepower motor.
Well...guys, there are a few things you need to know about inverters before buying a big one...which does NOT directly substitute for a generator! The little ones are WAY DIFFERENT than the big ones.
First off, at 2500-watts, you are pulling 200+ amps across the wire...so, unless you are hard-wired with some 4/0 solid-strand wire, you really need to go with DOUBLE 4-AWG strand wires...basically, buy TWO sets of 4-AWG jumper cables, and after you cut the ends off both, then run double-strand (both red AND black) of a complete set to EACH POST of the inverter...yes guys, that's a LOT of wire...and due to heat, I wouldn't run that more than 5-6 feet!
Now...batteries...let's laugh at the guy trying to get 1600 watts of batteries to run a 2500 watt inverter...and consider what you REALLY NEED...for deep cycle batteries rated on the 20-Ah system, and rated at, say 500-Amps, then buy 6 of these and wire them in PARALLEL circuit to power the inverter. Yep...$600 in deep cycle batteries! Now, you have enough batteries to power the inverter for 2-6 hours, depending on loading, before you will need to recharge your 6-battery bank. Plan on a charger that can throw 50-100 amps into the charge...so your little $50 Schumacher charger is NOT going to charge this battery bank overnight! Try more like a $300 charger to charge them in 12-hours...or, if you want solar, good...you need to throw about 70-amps of charge into these for 12-hours solid...so that is $300-$500 in solar panels. Also note...batteries get weak after enough cycles...so pay attention to your charge circuit...and a charging circuit MINDER isn't a bad idea, either!
How do I know this? Because these are all the big troubles encountered when I was a Director of Engineering for an RV Manufacturer...and when you get over 1500-Watts of inverter involved...you start playing by a whole new set of rules! It is MUCH CHEAPER to go with a 3000-watt generator, than to even CONSIDER getting a 2500-watt inverter.
This is a good inverter...but buying one this big and not knowing how to care for and maintain it, is like buying a big chemistry set and giving it without supervision to your mischievous 12-year old...it is NOT a good idea.

Many are very low output and do not provide enough continuous output to run a device, only charge it. Very happy with this product. Great continuous output for our needs. Gets a little warm after 4 hours of use (but so does every other device, including the player). Have not tried using the USB port at the same time yet. Takes a little getting used to the bulk of it when plugging in, but green indicator light lets you know when you've got good contact.
Would recommend in a heartbeat!

the one battery I have in the Coach. Installed under a cabinet close to the battery and
ran 10 ga wire to it. Plug in the Coach electrical cord to it and turned it on. It will
run a Radio or TV or the Microwave or the Fan in my A/C but not the A/C itself which would
take about a 3000 watt inverter which would drain my battery really fast! I watched TV and
listened to the radio for 2 days and finally ran the battery down running the A/C fan on the
second day. It's a little workhorse. Good for the price too!

I am starting with a small 100w 12v single solar module and this was the most affordable micro-inverter at an affordable price that I could find. Installation was easy, just connect the positive wire from the solar module to the positive pole of the inverter and connect the negative wire from the solar module to the negative pole of the inverter. I used grounding lugs to connect the ends of negative and positive wire to the negative and positive poles of the inverter. I crimped the ends of the wire from the DC volt meter (not voltage tester) to the inverter to measure the voltage from the solar modules.
The Ensupra Inverter checks for 12v on the DC side then samples the voltage/frequency on the grid and then synchronizes and connects to the grid. The input voltage ranges from 12v to 29v. Thus anything below 12v will shut down the inverter. Also anything above 29v will also shut down the inverter. There is a built in fan to cool the circuit when it gets hot. When you first turn on the inverter the fan comes on for about 10 seconds. Also during the day the inverter fan will cycle on and off. One thing to note is that when the fan comes on the inverter disconnects from the grid until the fan shuts off.
I can add modules until I outgrown the inverter. However, all i have to do is add a second inverter without scrapping this one. For startup this is a great grid-tied inverter.

Power Bright CW150 150 Watt Ultra-Slim 12 Volt DC To 110 Volt AC Power Inverter With USB Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to fit in my arm rest center console. It fits fine, but snugly. Also, it's a little loud. Also when I plug in my gaming laptop, which says it draws 110watts, as well as GPS into USB, it shuts down when I actually start playing a game and the fan kicks in, which is really annoying.
Duracell makes a Pocket 175 model (also sold on Amazon) that is slightly thinner overall (doesn't have this ugly bump this model has), and about a half inch shorter (4" vs 4.5"), also it's almost a half inch narrower (2.6" vs 2.9"). In general it takes up about 1/3rd less space than this model, which is really significant. The duracell model also delivers 175 watts vs 150 on this unit, enough so I can run my laptop and GPS at the same time without a single issue (I spent 3 hours in my car the other day and the duracell model fully charged the laptop while running 3D apps and my GPS- THIS model can't do that).
Also the Duracell model is quieter... I wish I bought the duracell model first, this unit falls a little short in every category and is now sitting in my junk drawer.
If you are SURE you only need 150 watts, don't mind spending the same amount of money and getting something less, more bulky and louder, then maybe get this.
Seriously, this unit is over-priced, since Duracell is a big brand name and their pocket 175 is so much better for the same price.
Don't make the same mistake I did!

(More customer reviews)Just before Hurricane Charley and his 2 sisters rubbed up against the Orlando area a couple years ago, I bought the Coleman 400 Watt Inverter. We lost our power for 5 days at a time.
Clamping this unit directly to the battery and closing the hood, I ran an extension cord into the house and plugged a 3-way into the end. We could run 3 12in. oscillating fans all night and sleep comfortably!
Most fans draw less than 1 amp per hour, so the draw on the battery is minimal. Just fire up the car (sitting in the AC) for a few minutes and the battery is topped off.
I went this route because the generator method has too many negatives for me: Theft or worse, fumes or worse, and the incessant noise. This can make your neighbors more than a little testy, especially if they have no power at all. And as always happens, the more you have the more you want. All we really needed was a way to cool off and cold drinks. The cooling off problem resolved, we turned to cooling food and drinks. This is easy. Freeze clean gallon milk jugs with drinkable water. As it melts, you've got cold water! (Unlike tornadoes, hurricanes let you know they are coming; you have time to prepare.) All of your cold stuff will be cold already so the ice chest and frozen water will work fine for a good many days. 2 ice chests lets you go get more stuff without it thawing or melting before you get back home. We use a Coleman stove outside for cooking and making coffee. The coffee became a huge hit with the neighbors! We use battery operated lights instead of candles. Candles are a no no! Not much light, unwanted heat and a real fire hazard. Candles are for romance. A boom box will run forever on batteries as long as you don't use the cd or cassette player. and lastly, we have a small battery operated TV. We are news junkies.
Here's how to figure how many amps you are drawing off your car battery:
Amps X Volts(120)= Watts. Examples: .5amps X 120volts = 60 Watts. 3amps X 120volts = 360 Watts. That's the limit for this 400 Watt Inverter, so forget your big ticket items.

(More customer reviews)I needed an inverter to charge my laptop and cell phone in the car on road trips, and this one fit the bill nicely. I have tested it out in the car with my computer plugged in, and it works fine. It powered my computer and supplied plenty of current to charge the battery while I was using it.
This thing is smart. If you try to run it off the 12V accessory outlet in your car without running the engine, the inverter lets out a constant beep telling you that you're going to run down your battery if you continue. According to the manual, this beep could also mean that the voltage dropped below 11.0V. I didn't know which it was in my particular case, but as soon as I started the engine, the squeal stopped and it was happy to charge my computer.
The ground fault interruptor, overpower and underpower warnings, battery drain warnings, auto shut-off, the 12V DC pass-through, and the option to hook the inverter directly to your battery are all very very useful features on a solid product. Well worth the reasonable price you pay!
A word of warning: if you need an inverter, make SURE you look at the amperage needed to power whatever it is you want to plug in! This one supplies 1.74 amps, which is more than enough for most laptops, game consoles, cell phones, and portable TVs, but ALWAYS double check and make sure. If you want to plug in a small fridge, for example, check the power requirements to make sure this thing can supply enough current! You'll save yourself a lot of frustration if you are certain of what you are buying.
I highly recommend this inverter! It's worth every penny, and it feels and performs like a much more expensive unit.

(More customer reviews)We bought this to power our laptop and cell chargers while on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. This unit was compact and easily packed in with the laptop. It worked flawlessly and saved our sanity by giving the kids power to "entertain" for some of the less senic drive times. The only minor complaint is the cooling fan, it just added a little white noise noticable at less than cruising speeds. On the plus side it also reminded us that it was sucking power when we would shut down the car. Overall we are very pleased with this purchase.
