Goldline AQ-TROL-RJ AquaTrol Above-Ground Pool Return Jet Chlorinator Review

Finished my first season with the Aquatrol - I have the above ground RJ model... oval aboveground pool with about 17,000 gallons. The Aquatrol works great! Takes away the need for me to be a chemist - this system is really easy to use. The water is gentle - you can swim with no bleaching of clothes - kids never complain about stinging eyes. You can actually swim underwater with eyes open - salinity of water is milder than tears - chlorine content is difficult to notice other than the water stays crystal clear all summer long! Unit is well made - holds up well to the elements. System is automatic - just set the timer and let it go. Monitor the salt-level on the control box - if reading low you simply add a bag or two (40 lbs each) to bring the saline content up to the point that the device needs. I usually keep a bag or two on hand to make up for dilution due to rain. Just dump the salt in the pool - couldn't be easier. Salt is cheap - you will save enough money on the chemicals for your pool to pay for this gizmo in no time. Only downside is that pool/filter manufacturers are still "funny" about salt-water chlorinators. They warn about pool/filter warranty being voided if you use these systems. My pool supply guys warned me about warranty - personally I don't know who salt water can be any more corrosive than chlorinated water. I have a Doughboy pool - and if I have a warranty related issue I know that will be an issue. Not worried though - the system is so gentle - works over time to get chlorine to the perfect level. Even with the warranty issues - would still HIGHLY recommend this product.

The Aqua Trol Electronic Chlorine Generator (also known as a salt chlorinator) is designed specifically for above ground pools up to 18,000 gallons. The Aqua Trol has all the same functions and features of the Aqua Rite but with a lower chlorine output. The Aqua Trol also has an integral time clock for control of the pool filtration pump. Since many above ground pools already have a single electrical outlet for the filter pump, the Aqua Trol is designed with an outlet (timer controlled) for the filter pump to plug into, the Aqua Trol then plugs into the original outlet the filter pump was using. The savings on chlorine and electrical power alone (if the pump was previously running 24 hours), will have the Aqua Trol paying for itself in just a few short years. The Aqua Trol system typically installs in less than 30 minutes and is very easy to operate. No more mixing, measuring and messing around with liquid or tablet chlorine again. Now you can automatically turn ordinary salt into a self-regenerating supply of pure chlorine for both pool and spa water that's clean, clear and luxuriously soft. Electronic chlorination has become the simple, safe and affordable alternative to using harsh, chemically-produced chlorine to sanitize pools and spas. Unlike traditional chlorine treatments that require a regular routine of monitoring and replacing chlorine, electronic chlorination produces chlorine from common table salt. The key is our patented Turbo Cell?, a specially designed converter connected to the control unit. As water passes through the Turbo Cell, an extremely safe electrical charge turns the salt previously added to the water into fresh sanitizing chlorine which is then dispensed evenly throughout the pool. Just a teaspoon of salt per gallon is all it takes. Installation is quick, easy and suitable for any new or existing pool.

Automatic Chlorine Generator Saltwater Pool System - Intex Model 56601E Review

Automatic Chlorine Generator Saltwater Pool System - Intex Model 56601E

Love this system. Saves lots of money otherwise spent on poisonous chemicals. Things I learned the hard way. 1)For low flow: check the little plastic circle net inside the intake tube. Clean every other day or so for best results. 2) For low salt when you know there is plenty: calcium build up on the titanium plates, blueish white. Rinse with high pressure hose (use your thumb)once a week. I didnt figure that out until a few months had passed and had to soak in vinegar to get clean. But once I figured out the minimal routine maintenance needed the unit has been running great. NOTE do not hose bugs off the bottom of the whole system as the water gets into the cooling fan and soaks the circut board and lights. Very very bad.

The Intex Saltwater Chlorine Generator is much safer and more efficient than using packaged store-bought chlorine for your above ground pool. Say goodbye to red burning eyes, faded clothes, and ruined pool liners. Simply hook the Intex saltwater generator into the pool's water flow as directed, add the specified amount of salt, and the Chlorine Generator will do the rest. The pool's water is converted to an effective algaecide - and since salt doesn't evaporate or dissipate as chlorine does, the constant addition of chlorine chemicals is a thing of the past. Keep your pool incredibly clean, crystal clear and fresh at all times with this Intex saltwater system chlorine generator.

Intex 2000 gph Water Filtration Pool Pump with Built-in Chlorine Generator Review

Intex 2000 gph Water Filtration Pool Pump with Built-in Chlorine Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I admittedly was a little hesitant to order the saltwater generator/filter pump because I was worried that it would be difficult to figure out. Also, there were absolutely no ratings anywhere on this product which didn't help matters. I have been using it for 3 days so my review is only based on the little time I've had it so I don't know how the long term will be but so far so good. You can run the pump only if needed but once you set the generator for however many hours you need it to run (don't worry the table of how long depending on pool size is in the booklet) the pump will also turn on and shut off automatically and start again in 24 hours. It wasn't that difficult to set up and once on it seems to be doing a good job of keeping the chlorine levels perfect.Remember you still will need to buy other chemicals for ph balance and akalinity balance.
The system comes with hoses and fittings for the intake and outlet for both large and small pools. They wouldn't work on my pool (Little Tikes zip tight) but the others (Aqua Leisure etc) should be no problem.
After the system runs through a cycle it has a display that shows what action you may have to take by using numbers (91-low salt, 92-high salt and 93-system completed/no problems).
So far it seems to be doing what it supposed to but if something comes up and I have trouble I'll be sure to update my review.

Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System Review

Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have used our Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System for 2 years now (during summer months only) and it's awesome. Only once per summer we have had to put in the table-salt (once the pool is full of it's first fresh water of the season), that's always at the beginning, when getting the pool ready for summer. Before we bought this system and when we first got our pool, we didn't know a thing about chemicals. In the beginning, we had to go out and buy chlorine, alkaline booster, PH balance increaser and PH balance decrease, plus test strips. Not only are these chemicals dangerous and expensive, but they are such a hassle to clean the pool every 3-5 days and constantly test the water levels to make sure water is safe to swim in. Now, with this salt-water system, you can scratch all those chemicals (it is very important, not to use any of those chemicals with the salt water system, because it will mess up the PH levels and you'll need to start all over with fresh water). The system does the testing and cleaning for you. Depending on the size of your above ground pool, you only need a few 25 pound bags of "Morton Brand" table-salt (can buy at any Costco for $5 a bag), and then you run your system for about 24-48 hours (when first setting up the pool) to get the salt to turn into chlorine. It may take days for the salt cloudiness to clear up. Your system does the testing and if there is not enough chlorine, or too much, in the pool, then an alarm will go off. The system when on, will test the water and chlorine levels for you. You no longer have to test or clean the pool. This sytem will do if for you (along with your filter system). Also, you'll still need a skimmer to clean the leaves and dirt off bottom of pool.
The system comes with a manual, so any time an alarm goes off, you'll get instructions on how to fix it. Let me tell you though, we rarely have any kind of problems with this system and it's the best summer money I have ever spent. You'll only need table-salt, a filter and saltwater system to make the chlorine. Within the summer months our pool is up, we never needed to add more salt. We have an above ground Intex pool and at first we had to call customer service to find out exactly how much salt we needed. They gave us acurate information. We have a 15x15 foot pool and only need to use about 4 or 5 bags of 25 lbs. salt (I forget exactly, since my husband does all the setting up).
Don't expect crystal clear water, unless your filter pump is running all day long (not your salt water system, since that only needs to run 3-5 hours). For the really clear water, your filter has to be running very often. We only run our filter during the time our salt water system is running and maybe overnight, for extra time, but we dont run the filter all day. Our water is only super duper clear when we are always running our filter. Often, we may run the filter over night, while we are asleep.
You'll have to run the salt-water system for about 3-5 hours in the early morning or late at night, when no-one is swimming. This is when your system will be making the salt into chlorine. If your pool doesn't have enough clorine, an alarm will go off and you'll just need to add a little more salt. Our size of pool only requires 3 or 4 hours and there is an automatic timer to set. Depending on where you live, will determine how long you need to run the system. If you live in really hot weather, you may need to run the system longer. We live in a cooler climate so don't need to usually run the system more then 3 hours (4 hours on really hot days). Because you cannot run this sytem while people are in the pool, you may split the time and do 1 or 2 hours in the morning and the rest at night (or just run it all night, while sleeping, with your filter). We won't be using this item this summer, because we have a toddler, that loves to climb, so no pool this summer. I'm sure we will get this system and pool out in the next few years and even if the motor eventually goes out, we'll for sure buy another one.
The best thing about this system, is no more messy chemicals and your skin, hair and eyes will thank your for that too.
Clean and clear. No more stinging eyes or fried hair. Dump all the chemicals for good.
Remember, if you have any troubles with the system, just call up Intex, you can see their 1-800 number on the salt water system site. I probably called them 2 or 3 times in the beginning. We finally got it down. Again, don't expect crystal clear water, unless you are running a cleaning filter all day long (not the salt water system, but a filter).
Here's a good money saving tip, that Intex probably doesn't want you to know...but we have figured out, that the filters can be hosed down, instead of replaced. This way, you are not always buying filter replacements. Just take out the filter, every other day, hose it down good and it works great.

Krystal Clear Saltwater System - Manufacture ID: 54601EPool water has to be properly maintained to be safe and enjoyable for your family and friends. For years the only way to keep bacteria from building up to unsafe levels was to use chemicals mass-produced in a factory. These chemicals are dangerous to store and dangerous to use. Simply reading the warning labels on a package of chlorine will tell you how dangerous these chemicals really are. But today there is a safe affordable solution that is changing the way people think about pool maintenance: Salt Water Pool Systems. For years this technology cost thousands of dollars and was reserved for high-end in-ground pools. But Intex the company that revolutionized above ground pools with our Easy Set and Metal Frame pools is now changing the way people maintain their above ground pools. Above Ground Saltwater Swimming Pool Cleaner Review

Above Ground Saltwater Swimming Pool Cleaner
Average Reviews:

I bought and installed this at the start of two summers ago. It included all hoses and connectors and was easy to install. It worked very well the first season and the beginning of the second season, keeping the water perfectly clear with no taste of saltwater and with no use of chlorine or any other chemical. It is MUCH less expensive to operate because salt is inexpensive versus chemicals and is MUCH simpler than trying to balance chemicals. Early in the second season the electrolytic cell failed, was replaced free under the 2-year warranty, and was easy to replace. Two to three weeks later the entire system failed to power up (i.e., not turn on). This time the entire system was replaced under the original warranty. It arrived too late to be able to use it this second season and is still in its box. Next season I will try to use this replacement.

Intex Deluxe Saltwater System Review

Intex Deluxe Saltwater System

This item does what it says it will do. The initial startup was somewhat difficult simply due to having to go to the store and get 160 pounds of salt. After that, it's very easy to use. It gives the pool water a nice soft feeling. It has also kept the pool water completely clear without the addition of ANY chemicals. I don't need to shock it or add Ph. I test the water every other day and the levels are perfect. My two daughters have stated that they like our pool more than their cousins (exact same pool) because ours doesn't burn their eyes. They ahve swam in our pool for hours and their eyes aren't red. The next day they swam at their cousins for a couple of hours and their eyes were red and hurt.
I would recommend that the small "cone" filter that comes with this unit be checked every other day if not every day to keep the water flow strong.
The unit is very easy to install and would highly recommend it for any above ground pool owner.

NEW INTEX Easy Set Saltwater System Pool Chlorinator Review

NEW INTEX Easy Set Saltwater System Pool Chlorinator

I got this for my Intex 15ft above ground pool and it has been a god send. First as a pool owner it is a hassle, cleaning, adding chemicals, testing the water, adding water and so on and so on. Owning a pool is a commitment but the rewards are great. I wanted to add a salt water system so I could eliminate adding chemicals and reduce the maintenance on the pool. Now I have to add NOTHING to the pool even on the sunniest day I have to add NOTHING (normal use cases). The water stays clear and zero signs of algae. Now I had a pool party and we had several people in and out of the pool for several days and the water was cloudy..In that case I could have pushed the BOOST button on the chlorinator but instead I opted to add a little shock and an hour later the water was back to its normal bright blue color.
Installation was very easy. Just disconnected my current filter out hose connected the chlorinator to it and connected the chlornator out to the pool and that was it. Took all of 2 minutes. They even give you some extra pipe fittings incase you have custom pipes.
5 Months after firs use: winterizing was easy. I reduced the pump and chlorinator run times and covered the pool after several weeks..water is beautiful...cold as hell but beautiful.

I normally don't write product reviews but I wanted to help what I suspect was an unfair one by a prior reviewer.
We've been using this system for 3 years with a 6000 gallon pool and it has changed the way we look at pool care. The procedure is simple-- add the recommended amount of salt, program the unit, and it takes care of the rest.
No more algae, no more adding chemicals, no more burning eyes and dry skin. The pool water is like physiological saline and opening your eyes under water is like bathing them in Visene. Very pleasant. Everybody who uses our salt water pool loves it, particulary people with chlorine sensitivity and dry, sensitive skin as it is therapeutic for the latter.
When adding this much salt (160 pounds in our case), don't be discouraged by the unit giving a low salt warning at first. It takes up to 24 hours for the salt to fully dissolve and register. I personally appreciate the unit having the capability to tell you whether your salt level is too low or too high (in addition to otehr warnings like insufficinet flow from the main filter system).
For the price especially, I find this unit highly sophisticated. Try it, you'll like it.

This applied energy current changes the salt dissolved in the water into liquid chlorine - hypochlorite. The liquid chlorine immediately mixes with the water leaving the chlorinator cell and flows into the swimming pool as clean, chlorinated water. The continuous introduction of liquid chlorine will ensure the continuous sanitization of the pool's water and will not allow the growth of algae. When the liquid chlorine has destroyed the bacteria in the pool, it reverts to salt. This means that the salt is continually regenerated in the process and the only loss of salt is due to backwashing, splash-out and overflow. It may be necessary to add salt to the pool water to bring the concentration back to the desired level of 3,000 parts per million. This form of chlorination will not damage your pool. Chlorine "tablets" or "powder" can damage the pool liner while saline conversion will not. Also, the mildly salted water will not affect the PVC plumbing, filters or pump. Saline chlorination is easier and safer. You will not need to buy or store any dangerous chemicals as you would for a pool.

Intex 2000 GPH Filter Pump and Chlorinator Combo Review

Intex 2000 GPH Filter Pump and Chlorinator Combo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this pump 6 months ago when the price was much higher than it currently is (as of Aug 09) and felt at that time I got a great deal. For the price it is going for now...it is a HUGE bargain considering the time you'll save and more importantly, the money saved for dangerous chemicals that you will NEVER have to use.
INITIAL SETUP
Yes, it is HEAVY!! But that is a good thing. It is constructed of metal and heavy-plastic...appears it will last awhile. You can bolt it in place if you wish (some states require that you do), or you can simply place it on the ground next to the pool. When I first took it out of the box and saw all of the attachments I freaked out thinking it was going to be a nightmare to put together. It also has a mini-novel for a manual. But...after looking over each piece for a few minutes and just glancing through the manual, I figured it out and had no problem setting it up. They give you 4 hose attachment configurations (2 are for pools with smaller intake/outtake holes {1.25"}, and the other 2 are for pools with larger intake/outtake holes {1.5"})...knowing that, it isn't so scary looking at & trying to hook up. I have the 13x39 Summer Escapes Quickset pool (with the inflatable ring top), which holds somewhere between 2100-2200 gallons of water, and this pump could easily take care of a pool 5 times it's size. Only problem I had with initially setting it up...my pool isn't an Intex, so it didn't have exactly a 1.25" or 1.5" hose hole, so I carefully cut it and it works perfectly. I don't recommend doing this unless you are fairly confident in your ability to cut a perfect circle with a flat razor blade...otherwise it could leak. If you don't want to, you can google the correct attachment. I cut my hole to 1.5" so I could use the larger attachments since it has an adjustable direction outtake (aim it to the side to make the pool do a slow swirwl, which will result in better filtration).
PROGRAMMING
Programming is simple...hold down a button to enable programming mode, enter the hours you want it to run, then hold down a button again to confirm and you're good to go! One thing the manual doesn't tell you...the timer works on a 24-hour clock and will always turn on the chlorinator at the same time each day that you initially programmed it. Example....I want mine to run at night since you can't swim in it when it's chlorinating...so I enter programming mode at 11pm and set it for 4 hours...then every night at 11pm it will start the chlorinating process for 4 hours. Now, the problem with this systems programming. If the power goes out, you unplug it, turn it off, or anything like that...it loses it's chlorinating programming and you have to do it again. This can be kind of a pain, but as I stated earlier, for the price and how well it cleans (I'll get to that later in the review), I can deal with it. I have to reprogram mine about every 3 days because I use the pump to vaccuum the pool...to turn on just the pump without chlorinating, you have to turn the system off and back on again. Doing this loses the chlorinating programming, but enables just the pump (since this is the combo system, the pump and chlorinator are separate processes - but the pump runs when the chlorinator is running).
PREPARATION
The manual states to add the required amount of salt and let the pump run for approx 24 hours before turning on the chlorinator to be sure all salt has disolved. I let my kids get in and splash around to mix it up and was positive the salt disolved within an hour and had the chlorinator running within 3 hours of first putting in the salt and encountered no problems. My pool required approx 60 lbs of salt, which cost me less than $15 at my local Sams. $4 for a 25lb bag of table salt is a lot cheaper than a container of chlorine...and I haven't had to purchase anymore since then. Wally World had "pool salt" but is no different than table salt, so don't be fooled thinking you need to buy the more expensive stuff...just be sure it doesn't contain iodine.
IT'S OPERATION, CLEANING ABILITY, ETC.....drum roll please...
Outside of the pains with reprogramming, this pump is PERFECT for a smaller above-ground pool. 6 months later and my water is crystal clear. Last year I used powdered chlorine and had to empty my pool every 2 weeks to scrub the slime off of the walls...but this system has not allowed any slime to form. Now, to keep your water clean, you must keep the chlorine level at an appropriate level or you will get yucky water. This system is not God and cannot work miracles. You must do your part in making sure it chlorinates for the right amout of time. The more your pool is in the sunlight, the longer you will need to have the chlorinator running. My pool is in open sunlight from about 12pm until 6pm and I run it for 4 hours everynight. I think 3 1/2 hours would be more appropriate for my pool size, but you cannot do half-hour increments. I have not noticed an increase in my elec bill at all, but my water bill is surely a lot lower from last year because I am not emptying and refilling a 2100 gallon pool every 2 weeks. When it is running, it makes a fairly quiet hum...just enough for you to know it is on, but not enough to be annoying.
MAINTENANCE
This pump/chlorinator combo does use a filter...filter type B from Intex. My local Wally World sells a package of 2 for about $17, which isn't bad since you don't have to purchase chlorine, stabilizer, ph balancer, shock, or anything else. To make the filters last longer, about once a week I take it out and give it a good spraydown with the hose on high. I change the filters about every 6 weeks. Other than that, there really is no maintenance. When I vaccuum, I have an attachment that collects larger debris before it goes into the pump so I don't have to worry about clogging. I do recommend this kind of vaccuum because it can clog with larger debris like tree bark, large leaves, pine needles (I live in the south, where there are a lot of pine trees).
WARRANTY
About a month after owning my pump, it began to make a funny louder humming noise when the pump first turned on, but would go away within seconds. About 4 months later, the noise worked its way up to 30-45 seconds. I called Intex about this afraid something was "breaking" internally, and they were super kind during the whole 5 minute phone call (yes, only 5 minutes!). They gave me a fax # to fax a copy of my receipt to along with a completed form they emailed to me. Within 24 hours of faxing that I received an email stating my new pump was being FedEx'd to me. No I didn't have to return the other pump, no additional phone calls, no more questions, and no money out of my pocket. I received the NEW (not refurbished, not an open-box...NEW) pump within 4 days of that email. I do hope this pump doesn't have the same problem, but with a warranty like this for 2 years, would it really matter? I suspect in 2 years they will have a better pump available and I will get rid of this one anyways.
SUMMING IT ALL UP...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pump. Yeah, they could work on the programming issues, but for the price and cleanliness of my pool...I can deal. My water is crystal clear, it doesn't taste too salty, no dangerous chemicals being used or laying around, I know there are no "critters" laying their eggs in it, and I spend less than an hour a week maintaining it! Go Intex!
