(More customer reviews)Back in July, I purchased this iron as my latest, expensive Rowenta iron started leaking like a sieve (at just over 1 year old). This iron is fantastic! From the first time I used it, it has been great.
The Reliable iron has a separate chamber and heat source for the water that generates the steam. This means that steam is available at a lower heat setting than usual. Also, the steam is consistent - no spitting, leaking or dribbling. The steam can be used with the iron in a vertical position (for steam-pressing a garment). The iron has two steam settings. The higher steam setting puts forth a tremendous amount of steam - just like a steam generator iron but without having a separate water tank to deal with.
The manufacturer does recommend using distilled water (really the only downside). The iron has removable/replaceable filters to extend the life of the iron by filtering out the mineral deposits that can prematurely gunk up an iron.
All in all, this is one terrific iron. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially to anyone who does sewing/quilting. Fantastic iron!

(More customer reviews)I learned how to iron in the Army, putting creases on my uniforms each Sunday night before I go to work. And I was pretty good at it. But I always thought there had to be a better way. This is a great product and I imagine as an appliance, one is probably comparable to the other, the difference being price and features.
The trick, and perhaps the reason for some negative reviews is that folks seem to expect it to be similar to hand ironing. It is not. You need to develop a new process, tackle your clothes differently. I suggest three things:
1. Think in big chunks. Remember the hand iron is small and most of us who can iron think in small areas. This appliance will tackle much bigger areas. And it will iron both sides at once - don't stress yourself about flipping things over - spend time instead on smoothing out the wrinkles and then simply drop the handle, hit a bolt or two of steam. Be patient, the skills will come.
2. Let it warm up - I plug it in, turn it on and putter a bit, gathering laundry and prepping my clothes. I set it up on my old ironing board and then simply lower it down so I can sit at the couch and iron while watching the evening news.
3. Practice, practice, practice. If you have a garment that absolutely must be ironed perfectly for a meeting in an hour - and you have never used this press before - then you will be disappointed. I suggest practice placing items on it while it is unplugged and cold - you will quickly get the hang of it. When first trying it out, iron a few old shirts, pants or dresses to get the hang of it. Then jump in. In a few short attempts at ironing you will quickly master the new skill and find that indeed ironing is no longer a task that lasts hours and hours.
I can get a week's work of ironing in just a little over an hour and now I can put a nice starched shirt on and grab a pair of creased pants for my corporate executive job - and I don't pay the dry cleaner to do it anymore.

Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron Review

(More customer reviews)My wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago. Well, that one didn't have the dual voltage switch and when we were in Europe, we basically fried it (our fault - we thought the converter would work with it, but apparently not). Anyway, we replaced it with this model last fall. Big mistake. The first thing I noticed is this one is made in Mexico, the old one was made in Germany. Also much cheaper quality - the parts, the fit and finish. We turned it on and it never heated up. Took it back and brought #2 home. This one heated up, got so hot that it emitted a scary smell (like when you clean an oven) and the plastic cover plate got too hot to the touch. Based on reading the manual and the website, I don't think this is supposed to happen. At any rate, we were never able to get it to emit steam, no matter how long we waited or how much we pressed the button. Back to the store to exchange it for #3. This time we made the clerk try it out to see if it was just us. It wasn't. None of the store personnel were able to get it to work. When they gave us a new one, I asked them to try it as well. Same result. They had to open yet another new one out of the box (we're up to #4 now, if you're still trying to keep count) which worked. Admittedly I was pretty leery at this point, but we were leaving on a trip in less than a week and they stocked no other steamer models. So I took it home and it went with us to Japan. Worked fine the first few times, but after about a week of travel it began to fall apart. Now it leaks profusely and the steam output is about half what it once was. I contacted Rowenta but the hassle to box this thing up, send it to the service center in San Diego, etc. is just not worth it to me. Needless to say, I am through with buying Rowenta.

(More customer reviews)When I was a visual merchandiser for a retail store, I used a professional steamer nearly every day. I purchased this steamer based on price and user reviews. So far it has lived up to my expectations. It heats up quickly and I can get several garments done before I run out of water. Besides being lighter and made of plastic, it performs very similarly to professional grade (which cost 4 times as much). Two minor problems I have with this steamer - there are no brakes on the wheels so the steamer slides around while I'm steaming, and the telescoping pole isn't quite high enough for my taste. Most of the time I hang my garment on something else. Like with any steamer, it takes a little practice to really get good at it. A pointer for those new to steaming - place the steamer head on the inside of your garment pushing steam from inside to out. It's easier for you to handle everything that way (rather than steaming from the outside of the garment). Plus, I save a lot of steam burns by working this way!

(More customer reviews)I like to think of myself as a true ironer. I love the look of pressed clothes and when i saw the press and refresh i knew i had to try it out. Although i have tried other garment steamers in the past and have been disappointed, i went ahead and purchased this product. The vertical ironing pad is amazing! It's so much easier to maneuver clothing on the pad when its hanging instead of trying to fight it on the ironing board. I think the best part was i don't have to worry about taking it down off my door to store! The steamer itself works great! I must admit, it took a few times of using it to get the hang of it. It's one of those products that you have to really get the technique down to appreciate it, but the results were great! I'm not advocating it will completely eliminate your iron, but it sure does give a nice pressed look to clothes especially those you would never want to touch your iron with. I was nervous in the beginning to try it on more delicate fabrics, but it really worked great on my silk blouses for work. I absolutely see how this will help with my dry cleaning bills. I also think its wonderful that you can use it on upholstery. I live in NY and have an 8 month old baby girl (my first :) so I'm very protective). With the outbreak of bedbugs in NY and just everyday germs, i feel so much better knowing that the steamer eliminates germs and bedbugs around my house (I even used it on my car upholstery). For all of you skeptics, give it a try! Don't give up after the first use, you will be pleasantly surprised! I have never bought into infomercial products, but I'm starting to think I might have to start watching more of them!

(More customer reviews)Apparently, I am one of the few remaining individuals who feel the need for freshly ironed clothing. I've always used steam irons, Rowenta most recently, with consistently disappointing results. Over the years, I've increased my use of spray starch to make up for the power I've believed should have originated in the iron. But no more!
After deciding I wasn't ready for a presser or a mangle for my clothing, and knowing I really didn't need to press that many tablecloths, I discovered a new genre: steam generating irons. And, after some significant research, I ordered this DeLonghi model.
It is truly a different beast than anything I've ever used! What steam production!!! The temperature of the iron sole plate is controlled independently from the quantity of steam desired. Tap water is actually recommended for use. The iron, while substantial in heft, is not heavy. And the old-fashioned looking cork handle is soft, smooth and cool to the touch.
But the bottom line is the job it does on my clothing and linen! While the ads say that this machine will cut your ironing time in half, I cannot say this is true.....mainly because I find myself taking the time to marvel over how each pass with the iron produces such a professional-looking surface! Really, the only thing that's been halved is my use of spray starch, which is an unforseen and welcome benefit!
Am I happy with my new "beast?" You bet! Would I buy another? No way....I suspect this well-designed machine is going to last me a long, long time. But can I recommend one for you? Without reservation!

Rowenta DG5030 Pressure Iron and Steamer Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased Model DG5030 to replace my old Rowenta Pressure Iron and Steamer (with blue water tank). My old iron was perfect and I expected this new one to be even better. However, much to my chagrin, it has two major defects: no matter what the iron temperature or steam settings, water drips (sometimes quite a bit) onto the fabric to be ironed. Also, since the water tank is completely enclosed, one cannot see how much water remains in the tank. Upon contacting Rowenta, I was told that these 2 defects are being "duly noted" in their customer files and that I was not the only consumer to complain. I am greatly disappointed that a company with the stature of Rowenta would not either offer to fix the iron, considering its cost or let me return it. I have written and e-mailed them with the further information that I knew of several other consumers with the same problem(s) so this iron obviously needs re-designing. Until these problems are addressed, I would not advise purchasing this model.

(More customer reviews)I am a professional costumer, and am used to using industrial irons. This iron puts out the best steam I have ever seen in a home (non steam generator) iron. The iron puts out a fine mist and doesn't "spit." This particular model has the option of turning off the automatic shut off. I consider this an important feature since I do sew at home sometimes.
The iron is heavy, but I consider that to be a good thing. It is difficult to get a good press with a light weight iron.
It would have been nice if the iron controls had not been placed right at the spot where your thumb rests. And I think that the handle is a little thick which in addition to the weight makes it awkward to handle.
However, if you sew or have delicate clothes which might water spot, this is a very good iron because of the fine steam it creates. I have only had it for about a month, so I cannot speak to its longevity.

Reliable S300 Empressa 25-by-10-Inch Digital Steam Press Review

(More customer reviews)I hate to write bad reviews on products but this I couldn't pass up. I bought this unit about 3 weeks ago, received it a week ago and had nothing but trouble.
First the unit came without the manual. While this is not an incredibly hard item to figure out, I would think that it would be standard to have a manual included with the item.
I called Reliable, which I eventually find out it is in Canada, they put me on hold and transfered me for about 15 minutes to come back and tell me that it should have come with a manual. I told them no, i didnt and it just became basically my word against theirs. Since I didnt feel like wasting more money on phone bill I hung up on them.
2 days after, on my 3rd use, the press ceased to release steam. New call to Reliable and new wait and they said that I didnt know how to use the press. I told them how hard it is to figure out how to press the clearly marked button that says Steam Release.
They told me I have to send it in for repair or exchange.
Hung up on them again. Never again I am buying a product from that company. I junked the unit and ordered a Steam Fast unit instead. Hopefully this one will last longer than a week.

Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam Generator Review

(More customer reviews)Steam generator irons are very common in Europe (where I am from originally) and buyers are provided with extra information that to my mind makes a huge difference in the purchasing decision. In the United States, however, few models exist and compete on the market and this data may not be so helpful as there is not much choice besides the Rowenta line (of 2). I suspect consumers iron less in this country and make more use of cleaners' services. However, I thought I'd share the information I found for the benefit of European buyers, more sophisticated buyers or more thorough minded buyers.
Rowenta was kind enough to give me the information I was looking for after some inquiry with their technical department. Here it is: the steam pressure is 4 bars (pretty good) and the continuous steam flow is 90g/min (so so for steam generators). I was not given data for the steam boost output which is important for a deep crease removal. The heating time at start is 3 min. The machine does not have auto-calc cleaning.
Top of the range pressure ironing systems in Europe now have 5 bars of steam pressure for fast ironing (pressurised steam penetrates deep into fabrics making ironing fast and easy, even on difficult fabrics) and at least 120g/min of continuous steam output for fast crease removal. Steam boost blast is around or above 170g/min. Heating time is 2 minutes and the system has an auto cleaning program for calc. deposits.
To my mind, this Rowenta product performance criteria are in line with its price. I am very seriously considering purchasing it.

I took my 20% off coupon to Linens and Things and was able to compare several models side by side and CAUTION!!! the much more expensive Sharper Image model is the EXACT same as this one just a different color! As far as I could tell, this table top model was the same as the pro models but without the extension pole and with a smaller water tank - I mean, how long are you going to be steaming anyway?
When I got it home, it was easy to assemble - just stick the hose in, fill it up with water and turn it on. It took a few minutes - actually I realized I hadn't been paying attention and filled it way past the max fill line - ooops - but it still never overflowed or leaked. As soon as the water started boiling, it began to put out a lot of very hot steam. I was a bit worried that the hose was too stiff but once the steam started flowing, it became very flexible.
For all the people that did not like the short poles on the more expensive models, the over the door hanger was perfect. The steam handle hangs on it and it is a much better design for long pants or dresses.
I steamed a pair of curtains, a bed skirt, my comforter (still on the bed), a shower curtain, and a pilgrim outfit. I ran the steamer for about 30 min. and when I stopped, the water level had just made it down to the max line. My biggest problem was that I ran out of things to steam! I was having so much fun watching the wrinkles disappear from all my stuff!! I did steam my hand once or twice at first but I quickly figured out how to stop doing that!
I got this steamer for just under $25 and I couldn't be happier!

(More customer reviews)I compared this travel model with the full-size J-2000 steamer. They were both very good at removing wrinkles from business-type clothing. We steamed a full week's wardrobe, and the clothing done with the travel steamer looked just as good as the others. The only drawback to the travel model is related to its small size - it needs to be refilled every 3-6 garments, and the smaller steam head means that it takes longer to steam an item. However, I actually found that the small steam head worked better on small areas like collars and cuffs, especially since it has squared corners. The corners mean that you do have to be a bit careful with delicate knits, though. Worth the price if you really need to look your best when you travel.
