Conair GS15RN Handheld Fabric Steamer Review

Conair GS15RN Handheld Fabric Steamer

I am VERY disappointed with this product. It is not powerful enought to remove the wrinkles from clothing. The only way I found to get it to do a fairly decent job is to stretch the piece of clothing downward as it hangs, and rub the fabric with the brush on the steamer while steaming, going over and over the same spot. It's like trying to iron vertically, only with no support behind the article of clothing. It doesn't remove wrinkles nearly as well as an iron, especially if there are any unwanted creases, and it takes considerably longer than ironing, since you have to steam the same spot over and over again. I bought the steamer because it uses tap water, and distilled water is a hastle to find when travelling, but tap water eventually causes irons to leave mineral deposits on clothing. Instead of this product, I recommend a standard iron or travel iron. It's easier to travel with a travel iron and just use a spray bottle filled with tap water to mist the clothes if you don't have distilled water to fill the iron with. The Conair GS15 Hand Held Fabric Steamer is a waste of money that doesn't do its job.

MY LITTLE STEAMER Review

MY LITTLE STEAMER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was pleased with this steamer at first. It seemed to take the wrinkles out of my clothes fairly easily. However, after about 5 uses, one of the internal screws broke, resulting in a rattling sound. This wouldn't have been all that bad, except that with another two uses, all the screws that held the plastic casing in place had broken and the internal reservoir was moving around within the casing, making it impossible to fasten the top. The unit became hazardous to use as all the internal wiring and heating elements were exposed and I had to throw it away. Additionally, the steamer's heating element and interior produce quite a lot of calcification and looks pretty gross after a few uses.
Would NEVER recommend!

Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Commercial Garment Steamer Review

Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Commercial Garment Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After much research - I decided on getting the best machine on the market!
I just received my Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Series Garment Steamer a few days ago, and quite frankly, I'm amazed at its effectiveness!
First of all, assembling it was incredibly simple - took no more than 5 minutes. The machine comes with no more than 4-5 pieces to put together, and a wrench is included for free (so no extra personal tools needed). It comes on casters for easily mobility. It doesn't take much storage space (20 inches wide - 10 inch depth).
It has 3 settings: Off, Preheat and Steam, so there is no complication. Also, it has automatic shut-off - and the best part: if you're planning to use it throughout the day, you can leave it on preheat to conserve water! Just switch to steam when ready and you're ready to steam immediately!
Once assembled, you pour no more than 4 quarts of water (tap water or distilled water is fine) into the machine (while it's off), then turn on, switch the setting to "pre-heat", then wait about 15 minutes. You know it's ready to be switched to "steam" when the indicator light starts blinking on and off. You then switch to steam and wait about 2 minutes for the steam to start. Then you're ready to go (and go and go - this machine is capable of over 1.5 hours of steam time!)
Steaming the clothes is very simple. As you go along, you'll find that some fabrics steam much easier than others, and you'll learn different methods of steaming different types of fabric. Some fabrics do perfectly steaming from the outside - some lend themselves better to the steaming process if you steam from the INSIDE of the garment. Other fabrics take longer to steam, others take only a few minutes. But in all cases - hold the fabric taut with one hand while steaming - helps remove the wrinkles faster!
Just make sure you keep the steamhead in an upright position when steaming so the condensation can go back into the machine - if you don't do this - you'll hear a lot of sputtering. To stop the sputter, just place the steam head on its storage hanger and it will stop immediately!
In addition to removing wrinkles, this steamer helps remove smells from fabric!
The only "shortcoming" about this machine is that steaming long dresses is cumbersome (but not impossible). The steamer stands approx. 5 feet tall (I'm 5'2) - however, long garments/dresses call for you to get on your knees or sit down on the floor or chair to steam comfortably. However, if you're sitting on the floor, after several minutes of steaming, you start to hear sputtering and then you have to stop and place steamhead upright again. But the height might be industry standard. However, so much good outweighs this small inconvenience, that I would be willing to LAY DOWN on the floor to steam dresses!
In summary, I recommend this machine 100%. Don't settle for cheapies - in the long run they may cost you more to own than this "workhorse"!

Rowenta IS-8100 Commercial Garment Steamer Review

Rowenta IS-8100 Commercial Garment Steamer
Average Reviews:

I'll make it simple: If you are looking for a home-edition garment steamer, your top 2 choices in the marketplace will likely be the Jiffy 2000 and the Rowenta 8100.
I tested both for 10 hours; on a 1 to 10 scale:
Jiffy (Looks = 6; Engineering = 10; handling = 9; craftsmanship = 10).
It looks like a mop bucket on wheels but it performs like a jet engine; every part of this machine from the plate at the bottom of the unit to the steam handle is built for rugged usage.
Rowenta (Looks = 10; Engineering = 5; Handling = 7; crafsmanship = 4).
It looks like a UFO but performs like a Pinto with much less steaming power; it is built as a toddler's toy having most parts made with inexpensive plastic including the watertank base and valve: pull the machine a single foot OR tilt it a mere 1 inch and you will experience a slow-building cascade.
Buy the Rowenta 8100 as a decorative piece to make your closet look good.
Buy the Jiffy 2000 as a garment steamer to make your clothes look good.

While a steam iron eliminates fabric wrinkles and creases with great efficacy, the impact of a heavy soleplate will not do for some delicate and vintage pieces. For such ironing conundrums, Rowenta offers this professional upright steamer. The 1500-watt steamer gently smoothes wrinkles away without the stiffness left by a conventional iron's soleplate.
The detachable 1-gallon water tank reaches its steaming temperature in approximately 90 seconds. With a full tank, the appliance produces steam for 2-1/2 hours. The user applies pressure to the foot pedal to engage and control steam output. An indicator light on the pedal informs its readiness for use. Steam travels through a 5-foot insulated hose, which removes for stowing. Though the user can monitor water levels through the tank's transparent construction, the steamer arrests power when the tank becomes dry to prevent damage to the appliance or power waste. The steamer also turns off automatically if left idle for prolonged periods of time for extra security. An aluminum hanger pole snaps onto the steamer body, extending the steamer to 5 feet high. The hanger supports clothes as they are steamed and swivels for quick garment steaming, front to back. In addition to the extra wide steaming head, Rowenta includes both fabric and upholstery attachments, as well as a lint brush for enhanced care. The power cord spans 9 feet and stores around a provided bar. The steamer travels on four wheels with casters and a carrying handle. As with any electrical appliance, read the enclosed warnings and safety guidelines prior to use. This item benefits from a one-year limited warranty. Without the hanger pole attached, the steamer measures 19-2/3 by 15-4/5 by 13 inches and weighs 18 pounds upon shipping.

SINGER SteamWorks Pro Garment Steamer Review

SINGER SteamWorks Pro Garment Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Singer's SteamWorks Pro steamer is just amazing, so lets get down to it.
Assembly was fairly straight forward and took about five minutes to unpack everything and get it all put together. So the instructions get an A+.
To start off I filled the tank with filtered water (they recommend distilled water obviously) and slid in onto the base, flipped the machine on, waited about a minute and steam was shooting out so it was time to start steaming!
Using it for the first time, let alone a garment steamer for the first time, was an experience. I started with some drapes that had recently been washed but not ironed. A few passes with the steamer took every last wrinkle out of them! It actually surprised me because infomercials have really ruined my expectations on steamers as they seem to over glorify them.
Next up was a button up work shirt. Using the folding hanger and the garment clip bar to hold the shirt, a minute of going over the shirt made it look like it had been freshly pressed! Just amazing with so little effort.
The SteamWorks Pro steamer works flawlessly on everything I've tried it and it uses VERY little water.
Now there are a few things that I would consider minor flaws.
* First of all there is a LOT of plastic and it's not the heavy duty feeling ABS plastic. The pole clasps that are on the telescopic pole (these are what you use to lock the pole at different heights) are made of plastic and I am honestly waiting for one of them to break and prevent me from collapsing or extending the pole.
* I find the steamer hose a little bit too short and too stiff. When you are using it, the hose does become more pliable when heated up. Not a huge issue.
* The drain plug doesn't completely drain the unit and requires you to tilt it. They really should have designed it better so you didn't have to do this.
* Even when fully collapsed the unit is 32" tall. If you are like me, I have no room to store stuff like this and am resorting to having it just sitting in my room.
* No storage for the accessories. Now I have to find a place to put these bits and pieces.
* No handle, so I am unsure where I can grab to move/pick up the unit. It also doesn't roll on carpet or carpet with rugs very well.
These are all really nitpicky flaws, none of which detract from how well the unit works/functions.
For how well it works and the price, you really can't beat this garment steamer!
Pros:
Works and works very well.
Uses very little water and doesn't saturate the garment.
The accessories and nice, especially the handheld steaming board and space age oven mitt (seriously, it comes with a protective glossy silver oven mitt!).
Easy to operate.
Easy to put together.
Somewhat compact and collapsable.
Produces steam within a minute of turning it on.
Cons:
Fairly bulky, need to find a place to store it when not in use.
Drain plug doesn't completely drain the unit.
Tons of plastic! Only time will tell how well it will hold up to being used.
Has no storage for it's accessories.

Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron Review

Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago. Well, that one didn't have the dual voltage switch and when we were in Europe, we basically fried it (our fault - we thought the converter would work with it, but apparently not). Anyway, we replaced it with this model last fall. Big mistake. The first thing I noticed is this one is made in Mexico, the old one was made in Germany. Also much cheaper quality - the parts, the fit and finish. We turned it on and it never heated up. Took it back and brought #2 home. This one heated up, got so hot that it emitted a scary smell (like when you clean an oven) and the plastic cover plate got too hot to the touch. Based on reading the manual and the website, I don't think this is supposed to happen. At any rate, we were never able to get it to emit steam, no matter how long we waited or how much we pressed the button. Back to the store to exchange it for #3. This time we made the clerk try it out to see if it was just us. It wasn't. None of the store personnel were able to get it to work. When they gave us a new one, I asked them to try it as well. Same result. They had to open yet another new one out of the box (we're up to #4 now, if you're still trying to keep count) which worked. Admittedly I was pretty leery at this point, but we were leaving on a trip in less than a week and they stocked no other steamer models. So I took it home and it went with us to Japan. Worked fine the first few times, but after about a week of travel it began to fall apart. Now it leaks profusely and the steam output is about half what it once was. I contacted Rowenta but the hassle to box this thing up, send it to the service center in San Diego, etc. is just not worth it to me. Needless to say, I am through with buying Rowenta.

SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric Steamer Review

SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric Steamer
Average Reviews:

When I was a visual merchandiser for a retail store, I used a professional steamer nearly every day. I purchased this steamer based on price and user reviews. So far it has lived up to my expectations. It heats up quickly and I can get several garments done before I run out of water. Besides being lighter and made of plastic, it performs very similarly to professional grade (which cost 4 times as much). Two minor problems I have with this steamer - there are no brakes on the wheels so the steamer slides around while I'm steaming, and the telescoping pole isn't quite high enough for my taste. Most of the time I hang my garment on something else. Like with any steamer, it takes a little practice to really get good at it. A pointer for those new to steaming - place the steamer head on the inside of your garment pushing steam from inside to out. It's easier for you to handle everything that way (rather than steaming from the outside of the garment). Plus, I save a lot of steam burns by working this way!

This is a great little steamer. I travel a lot and have used various steamers over the years and this one is the best for the price. Much better than my old hand steamer, which was the opposite--slow heating, inconvenient water tank, spat a lot of water, making spots. This one is much better, and it was cheaper
The `Ironing Mode' works very well and fits easily in my bag or suitcase. The settings are all clearly labeled by fabric on the settings knob. Worked like a charm, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I ordered Sunday afternoon, it arrived Tuesday, which was fantastic, but the spray nozzle was missing so not happy. It was July 3 so I didnt get rep from manufacturer til 2 days later. The company was great, sent part right away, no problems from them. The steamer however was a huge dissappointment. The steam "meandered" out, was not forceful nor plentiful in the least, after 5 minutes in one small area of a blouse the wrinkles remained. Tried leaving steamer on for over 15 minutes to "heat up" and work up more steam, no go. It is an ok product quality wise and the company was responsive, it just didnt perform well at all. Returned product.

Conair GS29 Instant Heat Ionic Professional Garment Steamer Review

Conair GS29 Instant Heat Ionic Professional Garment Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this garment steamer. Let me say, I am pretty experienced with this type of item; I have three portable fabric steaming units of all different brands, and I had one large standing unit much like this, but of a different brand. I used my old wheeled unit so much that I killed it in many ways - from the pole breaking off to the hose cracking, until it finally started smoking and I had to toss it (3x/week for a year).
Anyway - that was just to establish I am very familiar with steamers. If you aren't yet, or even if you're a fellow connoisseur, you will love this steamer. If you hate ironing - finding the right temperature for an article of clothing, getting around decorative areas or button holes, ironing a dress with tons of fabric where it winds up pressing wrinkles just from rotating it so much, this technology, and this unit, is for YOU!
This unit is FANtastic. It heats up in less than one minute which is pretty rare. I was worried that the steam might not be strong enough as it's silent and seems a bit gentle, but it does the job just right. There is practically no sound at all which is delightful - as with any hose if it's too low the steam condenses in the hose and will make a gurgling sound until you raise it straight up for a second. My cats were wary, but not afraid of this unit (good indicator of noise).
I love the following features:
*retractable and 8' cord (!)
*very easy to open and fill - and therefore to drain the water reservoir
*the built in 'clothes hanger' with two hooks for your own hangers
*the 'pause' steam feature
*the fact you can use it at any angle and it won't really drip on your clothes
*retractable pole means you can store it more easily - less prone to break while waiting to use again
*pants creaser!? Cool!!
Neutral:
the ion feature. I'm an ion nerd - I have three sharper image ionic breezes & a nightlight, and I swear by them - but I'm not sure the ion feature really 'does' anything. The plain steam made my clothing smell fresh (slight plastic-y smell when first running the new unit) but I could not smell the ions coming out from anywhere with my nose to it when I turned this function on, and yet I know it was functioning as the light was on, and I could hear a change in the sound. But, that is definitely the least important feature of this unit!
Also neutral on the hose heat - it's quite hot - enough that if you touch it it might make you retract your hand quickly - but it's not BURNING hot which is good :)
Con:
*The two removable 'heads' (for different types of fabric) never seem to really snap on - they don't attach in a satisfying kind of way. I can finagle them to stay on flush, but they don't really seem 'on.' I almost wondered if they were made for a different unit by Conair and then (retro)fit to this one instead.
More about great things:
*the built in 'hanger' - I know one reviewer said it was useless, but I found it fantastic. You just drop your garment on top of it, or button a shirt it around and steam like that. With sweaters that you might fold and not hang in your closet/bureau, this is especially a time saver. Sure, it doesn't work with pants so well (you can put the pants around it - just put on from beneath) but that's why it includes two hooks for your own hangers. I also LOVE the one-touch button to retract the top! very nice to get it out of the way if desired. Also it hold the head quite securely - ditto for the pants creaser.
*Steam pause: Just hit the pedal with your foot by a caster, and a red light comes on telling you it's pausing and not wasting steam. If you don't know why this really matters, when you have a huge pile to steam, every bit you can save will let you keep working longer by saving the steam. Sometimes I'd turn off my old unit but then there was a waiting period (taking clothes across the apt to closets, phone rings, various distractions, etc) for it to heat back up. This is a superb feature.
*pants creaser: handy little unit, it functions a bit like a straightening iron with a 'plate' where the steam comes out, and a plastic frame on the other side which you hold together to create a pants seam. This is one of the things which has still left me ironing, getting a good pants crease - but this is a super add-on! Also, please note that you can hold the clamp a bit tighter to get a more firm/deep pants crease.
The only thing this steamer can't handle is, for me, the dreaded linen fabric. If I try to steam the wrinkles out after wearing my skirt, which then has some deep-set wrinkles, I'm just out of luck. This is the ONLY item it hasn't worked for me, though! I suspect that the linen fibers need pressing of the iron.
This steamer works for me for: curtains, table cloths, very formal clothing (gowns of taffeta, sequins, or with ruching!), basically every fabric, sweaters, pants, coats, wool is DELIGHTFUL to steam! Very instant gratification to use this steamer, and you won't believe steaming your coats or woolen items.
If it's wrinkled you can probably safely and effectively steam it - always test a small area first! :) Enjoy!

I was skeptical at first because I have a hard time trusting brands like Conair but I purchased this one anyway and it works great. Produces lots of steam so make sure you're careful when steaming! People complain about it leaking and not producing steam after a period of time....if they read the instructions they would know that it only leaks if the water container goes below half and that you're supposed to decalcify the unit from time to time (using a 3:1 water-vinegar solution) to remove any mineral buildup in the unit so that it produces steam normally. Avoid the problem altogether by using distilled or demineralized water only. Take care of it and it works like a charm. The only thing I don't fancy is that the steam hose gets pretty hot. The handle gets warm but not enough to be a problem.

I bought this and used it only once and the hose broke. I contacted Rowenta's service center. They told me it would cost over $25.00 for a replacement (plus shipping and handling). Save your money.

Sunbeam? Supreme Garment Steamer 1500 Watts with Accessories Review

Just started using this, selected Sunbeam 'cuz I've had luck with other sunbeam products. Steam starts up in about ten seconds. EXCELLENT. The pole isn't tall enough, though. Not so excellent. This has been reported by other customers on other steamers, I guess it's a common complaint. I work full-time, need to wear business dress daily; generally some type of skirt or trouser with a blouse/sweater and a casual suitjacket. I HATE spending money on sending wool-blend items to the dry cleaners... or sending linen-blend lined jackets to the dry cleaners. Now I wash them on delicate cycle, tumble dry for two or three minutes (yes, even the wool items) and then hang dry. I use the steamer to get wrinkles out of the dry garment after this. It works really well, better than trying to navigate sleeves, linings, collars, with a steam iron. Tips from another user were great... use wooden clothespins to hold the garment tight, use a cheap plastic cutting board behind the garment to steam hems, use a paper towel roll in sleeves while steaming. Boy, that was great advice. The steamer is easier for me than my iron, it is easier on my back. Some users report getting a mineral buildup in their units, I don't know if that will happen with this one (we are on well water, not municipal.)
