I'll make it simple: If you are looking for a home-edition garment steamer, your top 2 choices in the marketplace will likely be the Jiffy 2000 and the Rowenta 8100.
I tested both for 10 hours; on a 1 to 10 scale:
Jiffy (Looks = 6; Engineering = 10; handling = 9; craftsmanship = 10).
It looks like a mop bucket on wheels but it performs like a jet engine; every part of this machine from the plate at the bottom of the unit to the steam handle is built for rugged usage.
Rowenta (Looks = 10; Engineering = 5; Handling = 7; crafsmanship = 4).
It looks like a UFO but performs like a Pinto with much less steaming power; it is built as a toddler's toy having most parts made with inexpensive plastic including the watertank base and valve: pull the machine a single foot OR tilt it a mere 1 inch and you will experience a slow-building cascade.
Buy the Rowenta 8100 as a decorative piece to make your closet look good.
Buy the Jiffy 2000 as a garment steamer to make your clothes look good.

While a steam iron eliminates fabric wrinkles and creases with great efficacy, the impact of a heavy soleplate will not do for some delicate and vintage pieces. For such ironing conundrums, Rowenta offers this professional upright steamer. The 1500-watt steamer gently smoothes wrinkles away without the stiffness left by a conventional iron's soleplate.
The detachable 1-gallon water tank reaches its steaming temperature in approximately 90 seconds. With a full tank, the appliance produces steam for 2-1/2 hours. The user applies pressure to the foot pedal to engage and control steam output. An indicator light on the pedal informs its readiness for use. Steam travels through a 5-foot insulated hose, which removes for stowing. Though the user can monitor water levels through the tank's transparent construction, the steamer arrests power when the tank becomes dry to prevent damage to the appliance or power waste. The steamer also turns off automatically if left idle for prolonged periods of time for extra security. An aluminum hanger pole snaps onto the steamer body, extending the steamer to 5 feet high. The hanger supports clothes as they are steamed and swivels for quick garment steaming, front to back. In addition to the extra wide steaming head, Rowenta includes both fabric and upholstery attachments, as well as a lint brush for enhanced care. The power cord spans 9 feet and stores around a provided bar. The steamer travels on four wheels with casters and a carrying handle. As with any electrical appliance, read the enclosed warnings and safety guidelines prior to use. This item benefits from a one-year limited warranty. Without the hanger pole attached, the steamer measures 19-2/3 by 15-4/5 by 13 inches and weighs 18 pounds upon shipping.

SINGER SteamWorks Pro Garment Steamer Review

SINGER SteamWorks Pro Garment Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Singer's SteamWorks Pro steamer is just amazing, so lets get down to it.
Assembly was fairly straight forward and took about five minutes to unpack everything and get it all put together. So the instructions get an A+.
To start off I filled the tank with filtered water (they recommend distilled water obviously) and slid in onto the base, flipped the machine on, waited about a minute and steam was shooting out so it was time to start steaming!
Using it for the first time, let alone a garment steamer for the first time, was an experience. I started with some drapes that had recently been washed but not ironed. A few passes with the steamer took every last wrinkle out of them! It actually surprised me because infomercials have really ruined my expectations on steamers as they seem to over glorify them.
Next up was a button up work shirt. Using the folding hanger and the garment clip bar to hold the shirt, a minute of going over the shirt made it look like it had been freshly pressed! Just amazing with so little effort.
The SteamWorks Pro steamer works flawlessly on everything I've tried it and it uses VERY little water.
Now there are a few things that I would consider minor flaws.
* First of all there is a LOT of plastic and it's not the heavy duty feeling ABS plastic. The pole clasps that are on the telescopic pole (these are what you use to lock the pole at different heights) are made of plastic and I am honestly waiting for one of them to break and prevent me from collapsing or extending the pole.
* I find the steamer hose a little bit too short and too stiff. When you are using it, the hose does become more pliable when heated up. Not a huge issue.
* The drain plug doesn't completely drain the unit and requires you to tilt it. They really should have designed it better so you didn't have to do this.
* Even when fully collapsed the unit is 32" tall. If you are like me, I have no room to store stuff like this and am resorting to having it just sitting in my room.
* No storage for the accessories. Now I have to find a place to put these bits and pieces.
* No handle, so I am unsure where I can grab to move/pick up the unit. It also doesn't roll on carpet or carpet with rugs very well.
These are all really nitpicky flaws, none of which detract from how well the unit works/functions.
For how well it works and the price, you really can't beat this garment steamer!
Pros:
Works and works very well.
Uses very little water and doesn't saturate the garment.
The accessories and nice, especially the handheld steaming board and space age oven mitt (seriously, it comes with a protective glossy silver oven mitt!).
Easy to operate.
Easy to put together.
Somewhat compact and collapsable.
Produces steam within a minute of turning it on.
Cons:
Fairly bulky, need to find a place to store it when not in use.
Drain plug doesn't completely drain the unit.
Tons of plastic! Only time will tell how well it will hold up to being used.
Has no storage for it's accessories.

I"ve had this steamer less than one month when it began to malfunction. As soon as I take it off of the hook, it shuts off. This was the most money that I have ever paid for a clothes steamer. it is still under its 6-month warranty but I will have to travel 35 miles to a repair shop. While it is being repaired I will have to resort to an iron or other sources. I'm quite disappointed in this product.

Purchased the steamer for my wife based on feedback from others. It works very well, the only caveat is that it would appear that pressing pants will remain a job for an iron. The pants attachment seems too difficult to use.

Haan GS30 Professional Garment Steamer with Attachments Review

Easy set up. Very functional. Great design. Convenient. Steam comes out quick once plugged in and turned on. Only problem is the action. It took me several minutes---ten or so minutes--to steam a cotton/polyester blend skirt. It still did not completely take away the wrinkles. Very disappointed. However, the steam works great with 100% cotton material. Everything is wonderful except for its effectiveness on fabrics with blends.

Jiffy "I" Interchangeable Steam Head Kit - 5.5 Foot Review

Jiffy I Interchangeable Steam Head Kit - 5.5 Foot

There is no steam pressure when using these attachments. With a real steam cleaner, the steam comes out in a blast and loosens dirt and grime. I bought these attachments to clean my fridge and showers but it doesn't work good for that. The hose is also stiff and not very long, making it awkward getting into tight places.

This heated up so quickly. It was easy to put together. This is the first steamer I have owned and it was recommended to me by my sister who ran a clothing boutique store and used it on tons of clothes. It was very easy for me, a beginner. I still have to get used to putting creases into pants, but so far I'm doing a fair job of it.

Rowenta IS-7800 Commercial Garment Steamer Review

Rowenta IS-7800 Commercial Garment Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product about 3 weeks ago. I was extremely tempted buy the very reliable Jiffy but could not quite justify the price for their pro model. So, I took a stab at the 7800. Its wattage is identical to the Jiffy, meaning, its steaming power is equal. The water tank heats up as described and the steam exudes wonderfully. The extra attachments are nice perks. The biggest drawback, as with the Jiffy and any other brand I've seen, is the 5'3" pole. I mean, who designs these things??? Try hanging a pair of pants with 34 inseam and go to town steaming. Like with any other steamer, when you lower the handle down too far, the gurgling starts. You have to straighten the hose and elevate the handle in order to free condensation build up.
What is wrong with making a sectional pole that's adjustable to 6-feet? Duh.
Other than that, don't hesitate to purchase this product, ladies and gents. You'll be delighted with it. And, I recommend purchasing the product at www.smallappliance.com. (No, I'm not employed with them. They are in Miami; I'm in L.A.). I suggest purchasing from them because Rowenta offers only a 1 year warranty. Go through smallappliance.com and they'll throw in a free extra year warranty. And, uh... by the way... shipping is free. Only took about 5 days to get my product.
Cheers....

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer Brush Review

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer Brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this steamer and am very happy with it. It does a great job of taking wrinkles out of clothing. Most hand steamers do, so it just comes down to whether or not they perform as designed and what features and bells and whistles they come with. So far this Rowenta has performed very well for me and I love a lot of the little features and design touches as well.
PROS
--Pump driven steam results in stronger and steadier bursts than the types which merely boil the water
--Can be held at any angle. Some hand steamers only work when you hold them vertically. The pump mechanism in this unit means you can hold it however you like.
--Trigger lets you apply steam only when needed
--Removable bristle brush. Use the steamer with or without the brush
--Removable tank. Easier than refilling the whole steamer at the faucet
--Uses tap water. They actually recommend tap over distilled.
--Ergonomic handle. The curvature makes it very easy to hold and apply pressure to the clothes.
--Loop on handle. I can easily hang it up after use in the bathroom
--Comes with a convenient storage case
CONS
--The water tank is a little small, so you may have to refill it a few times. I got through about two lightly wrinkled shirts on one tank. This is about the only negative I can think of for this model.
Garment steamers may be new to many and I suspect some of the bad reviews come from people who just don't know how to use them or have unrealistic expectations. They are not meant to completely replace an iron which may be more efficient for some heavy duty ironing tasks (for example if you like to iron your bed sheets or a similar type job). On the other hand, it can be used more easily than an iron for MOST of my ironing jobs -- and it can even go where my iron can't! For example, knits and sweaters. Ever try to iron a sweater? You can't. But I found this steamer can easily take wrinkles out of a sweater that was wrinkled due to storage as well as other knits that I wouldn't dare place an iron on. I wear a lot of knits, so discovering garment steamers has been a revelation for me.
Here are some tips -- 1) You do have to pull the fabric a little taut as you hold the head of the steamer against or near it to get good results. You have to pull harder on woven fabrics than with knits which you only have to tug a tiny bit. 2) I have an old ironing mitt, and I find it works great with the steamer. It acts like a mini ironing board and makes it easier to use the steamer as I can firmly press the head of it (without the brush attached) against some fabrics to get better results. 3) If you're having problems using the steamer, use it without the bristle brush attachment. With many fabrics and jobs, I get better results this way.
I've only had this Rowenta steamer for a month, so I don't know how well it will hold up over time. But so far I couldn't be happier. I've used it successfully so far on lots of types of clothing including cotton capris pants, cotton knit pique tops, and a medium weight synthetic knit sweater. I'm not big on ironing to begin with and do it as little as possible. But now with this little steamer I find myself touching up clothes more often whereas beforehand I'd just skip the iron because it was too much of a hassle to use.
One more thing: One reviewer said theirs leaked water. They must have a defective unit or are using it wrong because I don't get a drop of excess water anywhere with mine. Just pure steam. None of my clothing comes out "wet" either. I'm also baffled by another reviewer who said it burned their hand and the trigger area gets hot. I have no such problems. Yes, the steamer itself gets hot, but not so hot that I can't use it or it will cause injury (be careful with the steam though). It's mild compared to how hot an iron gets.
